Cardiology is a branch of internal medicine. It specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the cardiovascular system.
Cardiologists are involved in the treatment of heart attacks, heart failure, and serious heart rhythm disturbances.
The cardiologist will carry out tests include the following:
- • Cardiac electrophysiology (ECG): This is a term used to describe the study of electrical currents that generate a person’s heartbeat.
- • Echocardiography (Echo)-: This involves an ultrasound being used to create images of the heart and surrounding body structures to identify abnormalities.
- • Stress testing (TMT): A doctor will monitor your exercise to provide them with key information about your heart’s performance while under physical stress.
- • Holter monitoring: Holter monitors are basically ECG recorders that record the heart’s electrical activity over a period.
